San Benito (TX) to build monument to Freddy Fender….

freddyfendersanbenitowater1 If you visit Freddy Fender’s hometown of San Benito, TX you will be greeted by this image of him on the the Water Tower, and in 2007 a museum  which chronicles his life was opened.   On June 6, 2009 a monument to him will be  dedicated at the city cemetery.  As part of a $200,000 project, the city will unveil a headstone that will stand 5 feet high within a circular walkway.Six pillars will feature plaques that will tell the story of Baldemar Huerta (his real name), who was born in the city’s El Jardin barrio.

Another Cinco de Mayo Event in the Dallas-Ft Worth area… Duncanville May 2, 2009

duncanville-cinco-de-mayo-2OK DFW on Sunday May 3 you will have to make a choice between the Cinco de Mayo  event in Dallas or the one in Ft Worth, BUT this one does not conflict with either of them, and since it ends early you could rest up and still head over to either Ft Worth or Dallas the next day.

Fair Park (Dallas) 2009 Cinco de Mayo event is Sunday April 26 , it is free and includes some Tejanos…. (and yes they are Tejanos , whether you consider their music to be Tejano or not so don’t get me started ;-)

It’s kind of last minute, but I just learned about it tonight (Saturday).

Anyway, Duelo and K1 are  included in the lineup. See the flyer below:

La Mafia has been invited to be a part of the Tribute to Jose Jose at the at the Teatro United Palace in New York on June 13…

Oscar will be singing two of his favorite Jose Jose songs with the Jose Jose orchestra.  The following is the press release:
