Fiestas Patrias Alamodome event in San Antonio scheduled for Sept 6, 2009

fiestas patrias alamodome

This is the information from KXTN’s website.  If you recall, last year the event was free but you had to visit one of the sponsers to get your free ticket.  It looks like they are going to make it easier for you this year, I don’t see anything on the flyer stating that you have to pick up a free ticket , it just says free.  You might want to tune in to KXTN to make sure that I am making the correct assumption.  You know what they say about people who assume.  😉

Upcoming PBS Special “Latin Music USA” to feature Tejano Music…

I was surfing You Tube and found the following preview.

Here is what it says in the info section:

http://www.pbs.org/latinmus… premiering Mondays, October 12 and 19, 2009, 9:0011:00 p.m. ET/PT From Latin jazz and mambo to salsa, Tejano, Chicano rock, Latin pop and reggaeton, LATIN MUSIC USA …

I had seen a longer clip a couple of days ago  (which was gone when I came back to view it again) which showed a glimpse of Selena at her Houston Rodeo performance, and a short blurb of Flaco on stage with someone else (it went by too fast).   Hopefully others will be featured but somehow I doubt that it will be a true reflection of La Onda.  I guess I should  reserve jugdment until  after the show airs…

Video of the Texas Conjunto Hall of Fame in San Benito, TX

I was surfing around and found this video which includes some Conjunto history:

The following is the info posted on the You Tube page:

Mr. Rey Avila, President, The Texas Conjunto Music Hall Of Fame, informs visitors about various Conjunto artists, including the Jimenz family. Accordion player Flaco Jimenez was a member of The Texas Tornados, and as such played with the late Freddy Fender and Doug Sahm. Mr. Avila also discusses the history of Conjunto music.
