Texas Folklife, a statewide organization preserving diverse culture in Texas, and South Texas College Mid-Valley Campus will be joining forces Saturday, Oct. 2, at the STC Mid-Valley Campus for the Tejano Conjunto/Norteño Music Convening conference.

Join musicians, scholars, cultural workers and media professionals in discussing the history and present state of tejano, conjunto and norteño music. The program will include lectures by ethnomusicologists from around the country. Musicians, promoters and the media will engage in panel discussions.

The evening will end with music from Conteño of Brownsville, featuring Juan Longoria Jr., winner of the first Big Squeeze Accordion Contest.

WHERE: Lecture Hall G191 STC Mid-Valley Campus, 400 N. Border Ave., Weslaco

WHEN: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. for lectures, panels and discussions; 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., gran baile: music celebration, Saturday, Oct. 2
