Canales releases Selena DVD from his shows – San Antonio Express-News

The show, which Canales also produced from Corpus Christi and later Monterrey, Mexico, featured Tejano and norteño artists. For many of those artists, “The Johnny Canales Show” was among their first television appearances. Selena, the late Tejano queen, was one of those up-and-coming artists who got some early exposure on the show.

Clips of Selena’s numerous performances on “The Johnny Canales Show” have been compiled on a DVD titled “Selena: Performances Live,” available now in Walmart stores nationwide.

 Temple-based band Little Joe y la Familia took home another gold statuette on Sunday night.

The Recording Academy chose the band’s grassroots album “Recuerdos” (Memories) for best Tejano album. It was la Familia’s fourth Gram­my and ninth nomination.

Marlissa Vela is especially proud of the title track of her new CD, “Te Tengo de Olividar” (I Have to Forget You).  “I’m very proud of it, because that’s the only song actually that my dad got to hear before he passed away,” she said. “He couldn’t believe I wrote it.
