This is an article in the Newton Paper about a young man who worked with Ham and Alfredo Guerrero on the Grammy Nominated Tortilla Factory CD “Cookin“.

“I knew this dude named ‘Alfredo,’” Fields said. “I heard him asking for some days off to fly to L.A. to work on some music, and I said to myself, ‘I need to get to know this guy.’”

Some of Tejano music’s most accomplished musicians will pay tribute Sunday (Jan 30, 2011) to Tony “Ham” Guerrero, the trumpeter whose Grammy-nominated Tortilla Factory ushered a groundbreaking fusion of Tejano, Chicano, funk and soul genres in the 1970s.

The 66-year-old Guerrero, who has battled diabetes for years, is recovering from a heart attack he suffered Jan. 10, according to his son, Alfredo Antonio. In a coma for seven days, Guerrero awoke and was able to breathe on his own. Earlier this week, however, doctors put him on a ventilator after he experienced breathing problems, his son said.
